Origin Dumps AMD Radeon Graphics Cards, Will Offer Nvidia GeForce Exclusively

From X-bit Labs: The competition between Advanced Micro Devices and Nvidia Corp. spans significantly outside graphics cards business alone. Both companies compete not only for customers, but also for game/software developers, add-in-card suppliers, video game tournaments and even PC builders. Traditionally, system makers tended to offer both AMD Radeon and Nvidia GeForce to their customers, but this time Nvidia managed to become an exclusive supplier to Origin PC, a boutique system builder.

Just days after AMD introduced its new breed of graphics cards as well as all-new Radeon R9 290 and 290X graphics boards based on its latest graphics processing unit, Origin PC announced that due to persistent stability issues with AMD Radeon products it would offer personal computers only with Nvidia GeForce graphics adapters inside. Ironically, this happens just weeks before a new breed of games that were designed to run on AMD GCN [graphics core next] hardware, which powers Microsoft Xbox Next and Sony PlayStation 4 game consoles, are set to be released.

“This decision was based on a combination of many factors including customer experiences, GPU performance/drivers/stability, and requests from our support staff. Based on our 15+ years of experience building and selling award winning high-performance PCs, we strongly feel the best PC gaming experience is on Nvidia GPUs,” said Kevin Wasielewski, co-founder and CEO of Origin PC, reports Maximum PC web-site.

Both AMD and Nvidia try hard to ensure the best experience with their graphics hardware, but both companies have run into issues historically. Nvidia GeForce graphics chips overheated back in 2008, whereas multi-GPU setups featuring multiple AMD Radeon graphics cards rendered images with a higher latency than it was needed.

At present Origin PC’s web-site does not contain a single mention of AMD Radeon graphics cards. It is unclear whether the company has received any incentives to become Nvidia-exclusive supplier, but usually companies do get benefits from similar moves since they naturally lose parts of their businesses and addressable markets.
