From PC Mag: If you want to put Samsung's public relations team on high alert, start talking about a Galaxy S10 emitting smoke and overheating. That's exactly what happened a few days ago in South Korea, but this isn't a repeat of the Galaxy Note 7 disaster from 2016 as far as Samsung is concerned.
As The Economic Times reports, a Galaxy S10 5G owner named Lee in South Korea noticed a burning smell in the air. When he looked over at his Galaxy S10 it was emitting smoke which "engulfed the phone." Attempting to pick up the handset saw Lee drop the phone because it was too hot to hold. The smoke continued and apparently all the components inside ended up being burnt and scorch marks appeared on the casing.
Lee understandably sought a refund from Samsung for the phone he'd spent $1,200 buying, but Samsung is refusing. A review of the S10 was carried out and Samsung found that the cause of the overheating was "external damage." In other words, someone had damaged the phone to the point where the battery inside experienced some form of thermal runaway.
