Qualcomm Snapdragon 4100 CPUs Promise Longer-Lasting WearOS Smartwatches

From Forbes: Qualcomm has announced two new processors intended for WearOS smartwatches, the Snapdragon 4100 and 4100+.

These chipsets are the most significant revisions Qualcomm has made to its wearables line in two years. They are long overdue.

What’s the difference between the Snapdragon 4100 and 4100+? Qualcomm’s “Plus” model has the low-power co-processor used for a WearOS watch’s always-on mode, the standard Snapdragon 4100 does not.

The hope is these chips will solve two of WearOS watches’ biggest issues, that they usually feel quite sluggish and barely last longer than a day if you actually use them for anything beyond telling the time.

Qualcomm claims the Snapdragon 4100 is 85 per cent faster than the current Snapdragon 3100, and has 2.5 times the graphics power. Battery efficiency is improved by 25 per cent, in part thanks to an advancement in miniaturisation.
