Google Search Starts Warning Users of Potentially Unreliable Results

From PC Mag: As the number one search provider, many of us rely heavily on Google to educate ourselves, fact check information, and find the best cat memes. But accessing reliable information is becoming increasingly difficult in a world of fake news and biased commentary. Google hopes to combat that with a fresh take on search results.

"Sometimes the reliable information you're searching for just isn't online yet," Danny Sullivan, public liaison for Search, wrote in a blog announcement. "This can be particularly true for breaking news or emerging topics, when the information that's published first may not be the most reliable."

Sullivan goes on to explain, "To help with this, we've trained our systems to detect when a topic is rapidly evolving and a range of sources hasn't yet weighed in. We'll now show a notice indicating that it may be best to check back later when more information from a wider range of sources might be available."

In such cases, you may be met with a Google warning that "these results are changing quickly" and that "it can sometimes take time for results to be added by reliable sources."
