From Forbes: Information recently found within Google’s camera code strongly suggests that next year’s Pixel flagships will support a powerful new feature that the current Pixel 7 range will never be able to provide.
The information comes, once again, from well-known leaker Kuba Wojciechowski who has discovered an experimental new Pixel camera mode concealed within the code of Google’s latest Camera Go app. The mode, named “Staggered HDR”, appears in a code section labeled “Experimental2023”, suggesting the new feature may arrive next year.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect to this discovery is that because current Pixel smartphones lack the hardware necessary to support staggered HDR, next year’s Pixel 8 would have to come with a significantly upgraded camera to enable it.
