From PC Mag: After "unlaunching" the RTX 4080 12GB, Nvidia is bringing the infamous graphics card back as the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti—for $100 cheaper. The company announced the new GPU at CES in Las Vegas today, and will launch it on Thursday, Jan. 5 for $799.
During the announcement, Nvidia did not mention that the product is a rebrand of the canceled RTX 4080 12GB, which was supposed to sell for $899. But the new card has the same specs—7,680 CUDA cores, 12GB of GDDR6X of video memory, and a thermal design power at 285 watts.
In October, Nvidia decided to cancel the RTX 4080 12GB because its name was too similar to the RTX 4080 16GB model, which starts at $1,199. Although both products once shared the same name, they contain very different specs. In addition, consumers criticized both cards as too expensive, considering the RTX 3080 from the last generation launched for $699 back in 2020.
It seems Nvidia listened to the feedback and decided to slash the pricing amid competition with AMD's new crop of GPUs. Still, $799 is not cheap.
