From ExtremeTech: The "No Visible Cables" movement is gaining steam amongst PC hardware manufacturers. Earlier this year at Computex, several companies showed off motherboards and GPUs designed to make cable management easier, and one of the more interesting prototypes was from Asus. The company unveiled a novel GPU design with no power connectors, at all. Instead of using cables, the GPU received power from the motherboard. Now it's announced the feedback it received was so positive it's decided to start making the darn things, with production beginning this fall. This is exciting news for folks who like to show off their gear, but there are caveats: the no-cables GPU does require a special motherboard, and it might also need a custom case.
The cable-free GPU from Computex was shown off once again at a recent tech conference in China, and according to an attendee, the company announced it would begin production this fall. The conference was a Bilibili tech show, which is a video-sharing site. The channel EIXA Studio showed off the GPU in its report, along with the comments from Asus, according to Wccftech. In the linked video, the company showed off an RTX 4070 that'll be available in black and white. Due to the expense involved, the company will only produce that one SKU without power connectors at first, then gauge the response before it decides whether it will produce other models like an RTX 4090 without cables.
