From ExtremeTech: It's widely known now that Nvidia is cooking up some Super GPUs that it expects to launch in early January at CES. Last week, we reported Nvidia is allegedly ending production of the RTX 4080 and 4070 Ti to make way for their Super successors, but now a new ripple has to do with the RTX 4070 Super. According to a new report, the 4080 and 4070 Ti inventories are expected to be depleted shortly. Still, Nvidia will continue to produce the 4070, which will exist alongside the more powerful Super version.
The source of this latest information is the same as the previous report: a Chinese forum called Board Channels. According to Videocardz, the posts on this forum pertain to activity relating to add-in board (AIB) companies that work with Nvidia (and AMD), such as MSI, Asus, Gigabyte, etc. The newest report confirms previous reporting and things we've always suspected, namely that the RTX 4080 and 4070 Ti were never that popular with customers, and Nvidia has essentially ended their lifecycle already. That means whatever graphics cards have been shipped to partners by now are the final shipment, and Nvidia's partners expect them to be all gone by December.
These cards are going away because the Super version is anticipated to only offer a single-digit performance boost, so around 6-10% most likely. Given that small delta, it doesn't make sense for two card versions to exist simultaneously. That's why Nvidia has ended the cards' production, according to the report, as the Super version will take their place in the market when they arrive in January. This indicates the new cards will offer the same pricing as their predecessors.
