Framework delays Laptop 12 pre-orders in the U.S. due to tariffs

From C: Framework announced a bunch of stuff last month: powerful AMD upgrades for its bread-and-butter Laptop 13 design, its first modular desktop, and a brand new, smaller, more affordable model, the Laptop 12. This 2-in-1 with a touchscreen is intended to offer repairability and upgrades to cheaper laptops. Now there’s a confirmed pre-order date, April 9.

Framework has announced that it is delaying Framework 12 pre-orders for the United States, in response to president Trump’s tariffs, which are now as high as 104 percent on goods imported from China and 32 percent in Framework’s primary supply partners in Taiwan.

“We’re holding the next step, repricing products for sale in the US, until we have final confirmation that there is no alternative. We’ll keep you updated as we make changes, as well as on when we’ll be able to open Framework Laptop 12 in the US.”

Framework has also had to stop offering the least-expensive versions of the original 13-inch laptop design in the US, as import taxes would force it to be sold at a loss. Framework will open pre-orders to other countries it supplies later today. The original story from last week continues below.
