From PC Mag: Apple just announced the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, touting “huge leaps” in the main areas customers want, including a new advanced camera, a powerhouse A20 Pro processor, and even longer battery life. But expect to pay $100 more than the iPhone 17 Pros.
Both phones retain the same design as their predecessors, but the internals have been reworked to “deliver the highest sustained performance in iPhone history,” Apple says. In addition, the Dynamic Island at the top now supports three Live Activities at once.
Both models boast a 48MP Fusion Main camera, which Apple calls its biggest camera improvement in years. It's built with a variable aperture, rather than a fixed aperture, which controls how much light enters the camera. "Six laser-cut blades smoothly transition between different apertures, making it incredibly easy to capture the best shot by automatically adjusting for depth of field and lighting," Apple says.
To increase the performance, the phones feature the A20 Pro chip, which uses the latest 2-nanometer manufacturing process to fit more transistors on the silicon, an upgrade from the 3-nanometer node. The chip still contains 6 CPU cores like last year's A19 Pro. But Apple says the A20 features two “Super Cores” designed to be 20% faster and to offer desktop-class performance, alongside the four efficiency cores.
