From ExtremeTech: Google is testing a Gemini feature called "Call for Me" that can phone businesses on a user’s behalf. The early preview began rolling out in the US on September 24 for select Pixel 11 owners with paid Gemini subscriptions.
With Call for Me, users can ask Gemini to check a product's availability, reserve a restaurant table, reschedule an appointment, or even place an item on hold. Gemini makes the call from the user's phone number, navigates irritating automated menus, and even waits on hold before eventually speaking with a business employee. Each call begins with Gemini disclosing that it's an AI assistant, and users can follow the conversation through a live transcript and take over at any time.
Call for Me has a few minimum requirements: an eligible Pixel 11-series phone, a US carrier SIM, a paid Gemini plan, and enrollment in the public beta program for the Phone by Google app. The preview also requires users to be at least 18 years old, limits calls to US numbers, and works only in English.
