From PC Mag: UPDATE 9/30: Apple is set to launch its first smart home hub on Oct. 13, reports Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who says Apple could launch two different versions of the smart hub: one with an arm and a speaker at the bottom, resembling the iMac G4 from 2002, and another with just a wall-mountable display and a thin square-shaped speaker and microphones at the bottom.
The one with the polished metal arm is the standard version, Gurman says. Its 6-inch screen is "as thick as an iPhone" and is expected to come with black bezels, rounded corners, and a FaceTime camera. The screen will be placed on top of the arm, which connects to a round base with perforated speaker holes.
The arm will also let users tilt the screen forward or backward, while the front camera will let them unlock the device with Face ID. Unfortunately, the device lacks a rechargeable battery, so like Amazon’s Echo devices, it will have to be kept plugged in via USB-C to remain operational. Furthermore, Apple’s standard metallic gray is reportedly the only color version.
