From DailyTech: As Canonical and Ubuntu prepare to launch its latest operating system later this week, Mark Shuttleworth is willing to continue to burn through his own personal bank accounts to keep the Ubuntu project running. With the pending "Intrepid Ibex" launch looming, which was officially introduced on Monday, Ubuntu Linux 8.10 Desktop Edition will offer 3G network support, improved virtualization, and user management tweaks. "Ubuntu 8.10 sees us lay the groundwork for a radically different, more mobile, desktop computing environment over the next two years," Canonical COO Jane Silber said in a statement. "Our rapid release cycle means we can deliver the elements to support this future faster, more fully realized, and more attractively packaged than the traditional OS vendors." Linux users who cannot wait two more days can download the 8.10 release candidate now. Even though anticipation for the latest Ubuntu has been building, unlike Red Hat or Novell SuSe Linux, Canonical is still waiting patiently to cash in. View: Article @ Source Site |
