From X-bit Labs: Globalfoundries, a manufacturing joint venture between Advanced Micro Devices and Advocated Technology Investment Company, claims that initially it would only target leading-edge customers with maximum requirements. Problem for the Globalfoundries is that it hardly has technologies to fight for advanced customers at this time. “Not everyone is going to want 45 nanometer chips. There’s probably a handful of companies that we will want to partner closely with. We are not looking for hundreds of customers,” said Douglas Grose in an interview with Financial Times. Currently Globalfoundries is seeking for various customers interested in leading edge manufacturing process. In order to be competitive, the company has to adopt new process technologies rapidly. But the company cannot offer outdated fabrication processes, e.g. 90nm fabrication technology. “The next-gen SOI 32nm bulk fabrication tech will be available for AMD, the main consumer of the Globalfoundries, sometimes in H2 2009. Bulk 32nm manufacturing technology should become online even later,” a high-ranking statesman said. View: Article @ Source Site |
