be quiet! Pure Rock Pro 3 Review (Page 4 of 4)

Page 4 - Conclusion

With the be quiet! Pure Rock Pro 3, my CPU will not be going metal boom this summer. During my testing, it performed well in cooling my midrange AMD CPU for both the idle and load tests. When the fan speeds were low, the noise produced was nearly silent, while higher speeds produced a noticeable but reasonable amount of noise. The heat pipes and contact plate are made of copper with nickel plating to protect them from corrosion. The overall appearance of the cooler is standard and is what I would expect when I think of a dual tower CPU cooler. Despite the easy-to-follow instructions, the installation process was where I started to experience some annoyances. The way the spacers are designed added unnecessary complexity to the process, while the lack of extra thermal paste created stress for me to not make mistakes when installing the heatsink. When I was sliding the middle fan between the two heatsink towers, the clips kept getting caught between the fins. The lifespan of the fans is also a little low at 80,000 hours due to the use of the cost-effective rifle bearings. The Pure Rock Pro 3 is meant to be part of be quiet!'s entry-level computer product line, so there is justification for the overall cost-effective design of the cooler. At press time, the silver color version we have can be bought for $55, while the black color version is $60, which I find to be reasonable prices. Overall, the be quiet! Pure Rock Pro 3 definitely meets the manufacturer's design goal for targeting people looking for a cooler with a great price-to-performance ratio and has the potential to perform at a higher level.
