D-Link DIR-X5460 Review (Page 5 of 5)

Page 5 - Conclusion

Genshin Impact could be seen as a copy of a beloved game, but there are also elements that make it stand out. Similarly, the D-Link DIR-X5460 may look like just another router, but it also brings in the new Wi-Fi 6 standard and the incoming generation of 802.11ax speeds and technology. However, you may not necessarily see this right away. For one, this router does not look too different from older Wi-Fi 5 routers with its many antennas. The plastic body is not surprising, nor are the many ventilation points to keep the internals cool. The D-Link DIR-X5460 does take up more area than I would expect, especially with its wide base and taller antennas. Its inputs are pretty standard with four gigabit Ethernet ports, one USB 3.1 Type A port, and one USB 2.0 port. On the software side of things, D-Link is offering a similar interface to one that we have seen on past D-Link routers, which is to say they are pretty basic overall. This should suffice for most consumers, but it may be concerning to those wanting a more control. In terms of performance, the D-Link DIR-X5460 performed quite well overall. Its maximum speeds were impressive, though this also reflects the general uptick in performance going from Wi-Fi 5 to Wi-Fi 6. In tricky environments and longer range, the router was still up to the task in producing good upload and download numbers. Looking back at everything, I would have liked to see two improvements. First, I would like to see D-Link try to make this router a bit more compact, especially as it does take up quite a bit of space. Secondly, I would like to see a general uplift of the software user interface to provide more options for the savvy users. Overall, the D-Link DIR-X5460 is a strong AX5400 router that can handle multiple devices in a home environment. At a retail price of around $235 USD at press time, this router is not necessarily cheap, but it is priced competitively with other similarly performing routers.
