When I clicked the order button for my Lenovo ThinkPad T420 in mid-April this year, something made me wonder why DDR3-1333 is the only option when it comes to memory selection. What happened to DDR3-1066? Do the latest Sandy Bridge processors still work with it? To answer the latter question, 'Yes' is the only answer. But to give some thought into the former question, while I am happy to say DDR3-1066 does, in fact, work flawlessly with second generation Intel Core mobile processors (I just ordered my laptop with 2GB of DDR3-1333, and replaced it with the G.SKILL DDR3-1066 8GB I already own right after I opened the box), I just don't see the reason why DDR3-1333 is not your first choice aftermarket. It is true DDR3-1333 is only marginally faster -- but if you are shopping at your favorite online retailer right now, you will soon notice DDR3-1333 is only marginally more expensive at the same time, too. Running for around $60 at press time, the G.SKILL F3-10666CL9D-8GBSQ 2x4GB commands a premium of about $5 over its DDR3-1066 counterpart; why anyone would choose the DDR3-1066 kit over the DDR3-1333 kit on price alone is absolutely beyond me. If you have a Sandy Bridge laptop, DDR3-1333 strikes the best price to performance ratio over both DDR3-1066 and DDR3-1600 -- simple as that. At the end of the day, G.SKILL proved to us once again with the F3-10666CL9D-8GBSQ 2x4GB set that, being one of the most competitively priced dual channel SODIMM kit in the market today, does absolutely nothing to obliterate its ability to compete with top performance, best quality, and lifetime warranty.

Since April 30, 2007, Number Ratings have been dropped for all CPUs, motherboards, RAM, SSD/HDDs, and graphics cards. This is to ensure the most appropriate ratings are reflected without the inherent limits of using numbers. Everything else will continue using the Number Rating System.
