About ATTO Disk Benchmark

The ATTO Disk Benchmark performance measurement tool is compatible with Microsoft Windows. Measure your storage systems performance with various transfer sizes and test lengths for reads and writes. Several options are available to customize your performance measurement including queue depth, overlapped I/O and even a comparison mode with the option to run continuously. Use ATTO Disk Benchmark to test any manufacturers RAID controllers, storage controllers, host adapters, hard drives and SSD drives and notice that ATTO products will consistently provide the highest level of performance to your storage.

Following up next is our usual ATTO read and write tests. ATTO is an often quoted benchmark, because it is easy to use and accurate. For the most part, it is a favorite among reviewers, and I have grown to embrace it as much as the next for the last little while. ATTO uses easily compressible data, so SandForce based SSDs and similar will perform very well here. This means our OCZ Vector 180 is at a bit of a disadvantage here, since the Barefoot 3 does not use on the fly compression. As manufacturer peak read and write performance ratings are usually obtained using ATTO, whether a drive lives up to its marketing claims or not can be validated by this program. OCZ claims the Vector 180 240GB's maximum read and maximum write is pinned at 550MB/s and 530MB/s, respectively. This is exactly the same as the Vector 150. According to our tests, these numbers were pretty close, with the read slightly underrated. It peaked at 557.948MB/s read and 536.870MB/s write. Under the curve, despite having very similar peak values, it had a much slower ramp up than its predecessor, which was a bit disappointing. OCZ claims they played no tricks when it comes to raw performance, but while we can justify how the SanDisk Ultra II 240GB left it in the dust, it does not do a whole lot of good when it gets beaten by something that came before it.
