One of the most challenging parts in our battery of SSD benchmarks is the PCMark 8 Storage Consistency Test. Nowadays, many drives are well optimized for high benchmark scores when they are empty, but what separates the professional players from the amateurs is how it stands up to a truly punishing workload. PCMark 8's Storage Consistency Test is designed exactly for this purpose. Going through five phases -- precondition, degradation, steady state, recovery, and clean up -- to extend beyond real world application simulations, this benchmark takes just over two days to complete, but the results are revealing of a SSD's true capabilities. Overall, the Patriot Hellfire M.2 240GB's results were excellent compared to your average solid state drive in the market nowadays, but it was absolutely no match for the OCZ RD400A 512GB. In the first pass, the average degrade speed was about 220MB/s, and stayed within 8% of this figure in the subsequent two passes. The steady phases stayed close to approximately 210MB/s average in all three passes. The same went for the five recovery phases; where we observed about 410MB/s plus or minus a few megabytes in all three iterations.
