PCMark 8 Storage Consistency Test is one of our favorite benchmarks. Nowadays, many drives are well optimized for high benchmark scores when they are empty, but what separates the professional players from the amateurs is how it stands up to a truly punishing workload. PCMark 8's Storage Consistency Test is designed exactly for this purpose. Going through five phases -- precondition, degradation, steady state, recovery, and clean up -- to extend beyond real world application simulations, this benchmark takes just over two days to complete, but the results are revealing of a SSD's true capabilities. Overall, the Patriot Viper VPN100 512GB was very good. First, I compared it against the more expensive Western Digital Black SN750, where the latter was about 16% faster on average. Next, I compared the VPN100 against the same-class SX8200 Pro, resulting in the SX8200 Pro slower by about 5% on average. Lastly, its predecessor, the Hellfire, turned out to be about 18% slower than the VPN100 on average. Overall, the Patriot Viper VPN100 512GB fared well.
