Sandisk WD_BLACK SN8100 2TB Review (Page 10 of 10)

Page 10 - Conclusion

Whether you consider Sandisk and Western Digital's separation a breakup or not, the Sandisk WD_BLACK SN8100 2TB is still a flagship PCIe 5.0-based NVMe solid state drive product of the two. How well did it perform in our benchmarks, and is it worthy of its status? Compared to the venerable Crucial T710 2TB, the Sandisk WD_BLACK SN8100 2TB certainly proved its worth, with both SSDs being quite a bit ahead of the XPG Mars 980 Blade 2TB. Even though the Crucial and Sandisk offerings were extremely close in performance, the SN8100 2TB still held a marginal win in simulated real-world benchmarks like PCMark 10 and 3DMark as well as medium workloads like PassMark PerformanceTest 11. The T710 2TB was slightly faster in small to medium packet sizes. Of course, you cannot go wrong with either, as you simply will not be able to tell the difference in the real world. Both features Silicon Motion's excellent SM2508 controller and dedicated DRAM. The Kioxia BiCS8 TLC 218-layer triple-level cells in the SN8100 2TB has a rated write endurance of 1200TBW, which is exactly the same rated write endurance as the Crucial T710 2TB's Micron G9 276-layer TLCs. The only specification downside is the SN8100 uses DDR4-1600 rather than LPDDR4-2133 found in the T710, which may result in slightly higher power consumption, but in a desktop environment, the difference is minimal. For about $230 at press time, the Sandisk WD_BLACK SN8100 2TB is $60 cheaper than the T710. As always, Sandisk includes a 5-year warranty to keep you assured. If you are looking for the ultimate storage speed for your next build, the SN8100 2TB is a well-priced SSD that delivers chart-topping performance in 2025.
