About HD Tach 3.0.1.0
HD Tach is a low level hardware benchmark for random access read/write storage devices such as hard drives, removable drives (ZIP/JAZZ), flash devices, and RAID arrays. HD Tach uses custom device drivers and other low level Windows interfaces to bypass as many layers of software as possible and get as close to the physical performance of the device possible.

Now, it is the time for good old HD Tach. While HD Tach is more of a 'drag race' than a clear indication of real life performance, and has been around for a really long time, it is an excellent storage performance reference between hard drives for more than the last decade. Back in the days, if your average speed exceeded 60MB/s, you had a seriously fast drive. Where does the Seagate BarraCuda Pro ST12000DM0007 12TB come in? With an average read speed of 256.2MB/s and tested random access time of 9.2ms, this is mind-blowingly fast for a mechanical hard drive. But how does it compare against the other products? It is a virtual tie with the Seagate's own IronWolf Pro 12TB at 255.7MB/s, but a bit behind the IronWolf 12TB at 267.1MB/s. Meanwhile, the BarraCuda Pro ST10000DM0004 10TB came in at 243.4MB/s with 9.4ms access time. The Seagate BarraCuda Pro ST12000DM0007 12TB is one of the fastest mechanical hard drive ever tested in HD Tach here at APH Networks, but the IronWolf Pro 12TB had the best random access time of 8.0ms.
