Seagate BarraCuda Pro ST12000DM0007 12TB Review (Page 10 of 10)

Page 10 - Conclusion

When I reviewed the Seagate BarraCuda Pro ST10000DM0004 10TB in January of this year, I was very impressed at how it lived up to the company's promotional material regarding its "lightning-fast performance and titanic storage". As we come upon the end of 2017, I am, once again, blown away by how Seagate managed to one-up themselves once again. The Seagate BarraCuda Pro ST12000DM0007 12TB boosts capacity up another 2TB to claim the title of the largest consumer desktop hard drive in the market today, while retaining a 300TB per year rated workload and reasonable power consumption thanks to its helium fill. To ensure you are covered in good hands, the BarraCuda Pro not only comes with a 5-year limited warranty, but also a data recovery service with a claimed 90% success rate should your drive fail within the first two. Now, if capacity, warranty, and service are not enough to convince you to pick up the latest 12TB BarraCuda Pro from your favorite retailer, I will have to say its performance will help you seal the deal. The ST12000DM0007 is the fastest 3.5" mechanical hard drive we have ever tested here at APH Networks; winning a clear majority of the benchmarks run in this review today, leaving the 10TB model I once thought was fast in its rear-view mirror. As far as desktop applications are concerned, the BarraCuda Pro is even slightly faster than its NAS variants, the IronWolf 12TB and IronWolf Pro 12TB. Sure, the BarraCuda Pro is not dual-plane balanced and does not come with rotational vibration sensors like the IronWolf series. For $500, it also costs an extra $30 compared to the IronWolf Pro 12TB and an extra $50 compared to the IronWolf 12TB at press time. But what you will get is, indeed, lightning-fast performance and titanic storage with the Seagate BarraCuda Pro ST12000DM0007 12TB.

When my disk is filling
Free space goes down --
