Silicon Power Armor A30 1TB Review (Page 8 of 8)

Page 8- Conclusion

What can I say? Silicon Power seems to have delivered another excellent product. There are a lot of things to like about the Silicon Power Armor A30. For starters, this thing attracts attention just based purely on its color and abnormal shape. The slim and light build feels solid enough to take a few drops and continue functioning, but also small enough to take on the go for some extra storage. The color choice may not please everyone, but there is also a more conservative arctic scheme of grey and white available too. The bright LED flashing different colors depending on the connection is also a neat idea. Having the rubber bumpers doubling as a wire holder is another excellent idea, allowing users to carry the cable with the drive together. Internally, the build is simple but effective. The orange silicone and the rubber blocks both absorb vibration and shocks to keep the hard drive as stable as possible. Performance wise, the Silicon Power Armor A30 1TB surpasses the ADATA DashDrive Durable HD650 500GB slightly on different levels and benchmarks, and it is quite good to see this hard drive outrun its competitors in several tests. However, there are a few things Silicon Power should be look into. For one, the hard drive itself has no grip on the table, and can easily slide off a surface without any resistance. The drive is also very slippery in the hands, and it could fall to the ground without intention. Even though this drive can probably handle a drop or two, it would be better if they also prevented drops from occurring to begin with in the first place. This can be done by adding more surface friction through the usage of other materials or rubberizing the plastic shell. Finally, the external surface does not do a very good job of concealing scratches, as the honeycomb pattern does not go all around the hard drive. If Silicon Power extended this area to wrap around the entire drive, then I would not have an issue. Looking at online retailers, the Silicon Power Armor A30 1TB can be had for around $78 USD at press time. Once again, there are also other models for different capacities if you need a bit more or can do with less space. The Silicon Power Armor A30 has not failed to impress us, and these small fixes can only enhance on what is already a great blend of performance, price, and durability.
