Just as starting a new job meant staying open to new people and new ways of doing things, reviewing the SOUNDPEATS UU2 required me to set aside my previous experiences and expectations based on in-ear earphones to judge the UU2 on its own terms. Starting then with the positives, there are many reasons to choose the UU2. Beginning with the most impactful, the comfort of using these earphones is top-tier. Once I found the optimal ear positioning, I often forgot I was even wearing them. These strike a nice balance between a secure fit and a high level of comfort. With them secured, the UU2 offered good sound quality, with strong midrange, acceptable midrange, and well-defined soundstage. The next feature I enjoyed was the battery life, which, combined with quick charging, meant that I never ran out of battery in day-to-day use. The wireless range is excellent as well. That said, there are some trade-offs inherent to the design. For one, the lack of sub-bass, while understandable due to the lack of a proper seal, is something to consider if your music taste is heavy in these frequencies. The sound leakage is also largely unavoidable due to the design of the UU2, though I do appreciate that SOUNDPEATS has attempted to minimize the issue through their privacy mode. One final critique is the requirement of an account to use the SOUNDPEATS app, which is unnecessary and introduces an additional level of complexity to the setup and use of the UU2 earphones. At the time of writing, the SOUNDPEATS UU2 retails for $50, which feels reasonable for the features and user experience. If you are looking for a set of clip-style Bluetooth earphones to enjoy on-the-go without sacrificing situational awareness or comfort, the UU2 may be the product for you.
