About HD Tach 126.96.36.199
HD Tach is a low level hardware benchmark for random access read/write storage devices such as hard drives, removable drives (ZIP/JAZZ), flash devices, and RAID arrays. HD Tach uses custom device drivers and other low level Windows interfaces to bypass as many layers of software as possible and get as close to the physical performance of the device possible.

Now, it is the time for good old HD Tach. While HD Tach is more of a 'drag race' than a clear indication of real life performance, and has been around for a really long time, it is an excellent storage performance reference between hard drives for more than the last decade. Back in the days, if your average speed exceeded 60MB/s, you have a seriously fast drive. Where does the Western Digital Black WD6001FZWX 6TB come in? With an average read speed of 217.8MB/s, and tested random access time of 9.0ms, this is mind-blowingly fast for a mechanical hard drive. But how does it compare against the competition? The 7,200RPM Deskstar NAS 4TB came in at 158.0MB/s, while the Red Pro WD4001FFSX dropped in at 166.5MB/s. For other 6TB drives, the Red Pro WD6001FFWX clocked in at 227.6MB/s, and the Red WD60EFRX pulled 176.5MB/s in the same test. Again, it was slightly behind the WD Red Pro 6GB in linear tests like this, as we have seen on previous pages, but undoubtedly incredibly fast by 2015 standards.
