In the 4th year engineering class on computer networks at the University of Calgary, one of the rules I have is students are allowed to take a "cheat sheet" into the exam. Now, despite being called a "cheat sheet", the cheat sheet is not free-for-all. It is a reasonably regulated document where students are only allowed to have formulas and definitions of variables in the formulas. The reason why I have this rule is because it helps students study. To prevent actual cheating, all formula sheets are checked during the exam, and are required to be handed in after the exam. Of course, students often try to exploit loopholes, which I actually encourage. The reason is because if you thought hard enough to exploit loopholes, you probably understand the material well enough, which is the point of the exercise. One of the most commonly exploited loopholes is the definition of "formula". Other loopholes were attempted over the years as well, and notably last year, a student asked me if she could compose the cheat sheet in Chinese. I just laughed and told her to go ahead, I can fully read and understand Chinese -- I was not sure what advantage it would give her. So how does one differentiate itself, and is it even necessary? When it comes to the latest performance DDR5 CUDIMM RAM, they all follow the same formula: Clock driver, fancy heatspreaders, SK hynix chips, lifetime warranty, and depending on the variant, RGB LEDs. We have seen this exact formula with the Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5-8400 2x24GB and Kingston Fury Renegade DDR5-8400 2x24GB. So are there anything that makes the XPG Lancer CUDIMM RGB DDR5-8400 2x24GB we are reviewing today unique, and does its uniqueness, if exists, present an advantage? Read on to find out!

Our XPG Lancer CUDIMM RGB DDR5-8400 2x24GB arrived in a small plastic-sealed brown corrugated cardboard shipping box from the company's global headquarters in New Taipei, Taiwan. Everything arrived in excellent condition to us here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada for our review today using FedEx International Priority.

Our review unit of the XPG Lancer CUDIMM RGB DDR5-8400 2x24GB arrived in its retail hang packaging. If you look at the photo above, they do not advertise the ADATA brand on the XPG Lancer CUDIMM RGB DDR5-8400 2x24GB's retail packaging, instead using XPG only. This has been the case for all products within the XPG label for a while now. The XPG Lancer CUDIMM RGB's retail box is predominantly red with white text. XPG's logo along with the model name and product description is placed along the bottom, with a transparent sticker indicating its memory capacity and speed next to it. An array of icons highlights its clock driver, 80% recycled aluminum, and ECO branding is placed at the upper left and right corners. Across the middle is a picture of one memory module. More branding and product description in various languages can be found on the remaining sides of the box.

Before we move on, let us take a look at the specifications of the XPG Lancer CUDIMM RGB DDR5-8400 2x24GB, as obtained from the manufacturer's website:

Out of the box, you will receive each memory module in the XPG Lancer CUDIMM RGB kit packaged in its own compartment in the enclosed clear plastic tray. There is nothing else included, but I am not sure what else you can expect from a DDR5 kit either, haha.

A screenshot of the memory tab in CPU-Z with XPG's Lancer CUDIMM RGB DDR5-8400 2x24GB installed. The SPD timings table in CPU-Z reads standard JEDEC specifications programmed into the memory as well as XMP data for running the memory at various speeds. Our ASUS ProArt Z890-Creator WiFi motherboard used for testing had no issues detecting and working with the Lancer CUDIMM RGB DDR5-8400 RAM right out of the box using the latest BIOS revision. The XPG Lancer CUDIMM RGB DDR5-8400 2x24GB retails for approximately $350 at press time.
