Crucial T500 2TB Review (Page 10 of 10)

Page 10 - Conclusion

Compared to the Crucial P5 Plus 2TB, the T500 2TB uses a Phison 5025-E25 controller and Micron B58R 232-layer TLC rather than B47R 176-layer NAND chips. Did the company quietly dominate the performance PCIe 4.0-based NVMe SSD scene? To start, the T500 2TB delivered very good results in regular workloads, meaning your day-to-day tasks will be breezed through thanks to the performance of this drive. If you plan to use this on your PC, the T500 has full drive encryption support, comes with Acronis' excellent True Image software, and a one-month subscription of Adobe Creative Cloud. If you plan to use this on your PlayStation 5, the beefy heatsink will fit inside your game console with no compatibility problems. Regardless of how or where you plan to use it, the 2GB DRAM will ensure solid performance even as your drive approaches capacity limit, and the 1200TB write endurance will ensure this SSD can handle more writes than an average person will likely need through its lifetime. However, when it comes to medium workloads, the Crucial T500 2TB is more comparable to a mainstream drive, being marginally faster than the P5 Plus. This is often where performance and mainstream models diverge the most, and unfortunately, the T500 shows some mainstream SSD characteristics in this area. For about $120 at press time, the Crucial T500 2TB is reasonably priced for what you get. At the time of this review, the 2TB version of the speedy ADATA Legend 960 is $130, while the Lexar Professional NM800 PRO 2TB is $145. If you are looking for a full-featured PCIe 4.0-based NVMe SSD that delivers solid day-to-day performance at a reasonable price from a trusted brand, the Crucial T500 2TB is a safe choice that offers good value for your money.
