Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 G3 32GB Review (Page 8 of 8)

Page 8 - Conclusion

Pull out all your awkward questions, because simple answers are the only response you will get. Putting the Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 G2 and G3 side by side, it is amazing how one product generation can change so much. This is not an evolution from its predecessor. It is a revolution as far as industrial design is concerned. In my personal opinion, it is a quantum leap in appearance. The Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 G3 32GB really looks like no other flash drive in the market in a good way. I know my colleague Preston did not complain about the look of the G2, other than a Jenny Craig treatment being necessary, but Kingston just went ahead and did a whole remake -- plastic surgery, South Korean style. However, in my personal opinion, a whole face reconstruction still isn't something Psy would immediately run up and address it as Hey, sexy lady, because its body still has not received a Jenny Craig treatment (Or whatever they call it in Gangnam). A quick rotation along the X-axis still shows a chunky block. The way I see it, if they could shave about a third off its thickness, it would have been perfect. Looks aside, how is the performance? Well, I cannot say it is really better, if at all, compared to the last generation, so a little boost here would have been nice. This is not to say this drive is slow though, because it is not. At the end of the day, for about $40 at press time, if you don't mind trading a bit of chunkiness for a quality feel, the Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 G3 32GB is a strong contender against other USB 3.0 flash drives.

Kingston provided this product to APH Networks for the purpose of evaluation.

APH Review Focus Summary:
7/10 means Great product with many advantages and certain insignificant drawbacks; but should be considered before purchasing.
8/10 means Definitely a very good product with drawbacks that aren't likely going to matter to the end user.
-- Final APH Numeric Rating is 7.1/10

The Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 G3 32GB repackages its predecessor with a South Korean style plastic surgery for a slick appearance -- but still requires a bit of help from Jenny Craig to slim it down.
