YouTube Takes Down Another Popular Discord Music Bot

From PC Mag: Less than three weeks after shuttering Discord's Groovy music bot, Google-owned YouTube is taking down another popular player.

Rythm, which boasts more than 560 million Discord users, is complying with Google's cease-and-desist order and will stop working at 11 a.m. ET on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2021.

"We have received a notice from YouTube asking us to shut down our service," the team wrote in an announcement. "Since we use YouTube as our main source of music, that means our current service will shut down entirely."

Launched in 2016 as a "small project" by founder ImBursting, Rythm has grown into the largest bot on Discord, currently installed on more than 20 million servers, as reported by The Verge.

"Even though our current service is shutting down, we're not going anywhere," the website said, promising that "this isn't the end" for Rythm. "We've spent the last year working on something brand new in the music space that will revolutionize how we all listen to music." They expect to return next spring with a new project.
