Kia Recalls 23K EVs Due to Missing Seat Mounting Bolts

From PC Mag: Kia is recalling 22,883 units of its EV9 electric SUVs in the US.

The recall was announced after Kia found that some seat bolts for the second and third rows in the 2024-2025 models were missing. The error occurred at the Kia Autoland Gwangmyeong assembly plant in Korea and impacted vehicles manufactured between Sept. 25, 2023, and Oct. 15, 2024.

Due to the missing bolts, some customers may hear a rattling noise or experience looseness of the seats, Kia says in a report submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA). That report also says “seats with missing seat mounting bolts may not properly restrain an occupant during certain collisions, thereby increasing the risk of injury.”

Owners of affected EV9s will get recall notices by mail by Jan. 24, 2025. For more information, they can also contact their local dealership or Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542.
