Facebook to Add Auto-Play Video to NewsFeed for All Mobile Users

From DailyTech: If you are a user of Facebook, you have probably posted links to video on sites like Instagram or at least have seen them on your newsfeed. To get those videos to play, you currently have to click on the play buttons.

However, Facebook has announced that it will be rolling out a new auto-play feature for videos to all mobile users. Facebook said, "We’re continuing a wider rollout of in-line video on web."

You can bet the idea behind this wasn’t only to make it easier to see the videos your friends share, but to usher in video ads that play automatically. The auto-play videos will mark the first time that moving content has been available by default without having to click play on the News Feed.

Auto-play will reportedly work for videos uploaded directly to Facebook or shared via Instagram. The videos will now play as soon as you scroll over them. They will also continue to play as you move through your feed. The catch is that the sound won't play until you click or tap the video.

Facebook tested the new auto-play feature on the web with a small group of users in September. It is now rolling out to all iOS and Android users even though auto-play ads were tipped to be delayed until 2014.
