Samsung Galaxy Note 7 faulty batteries reportedly tested in house

From CNET: Samsung looks to be in the awkward position of having only itself to blame.

The troublesome batteries Samsung used in its ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 devices were tested by the company in house, claimed the Wall Street Journal on Monday.

Samsung said last week that it would permanently stop making the Note 7, after multiple safety incidents caused it issue to separate recalls for the device. Beleaguered by battery problems from the off, it now seems that Samsung could have tested them at one of its own facilities.

In order to sell phones in the US, phone manufacturers must test phone batteries one of 28 certified labs. Samsung is the only phone manufacturer to have its own lab certified by the CTIA, the international industry group, also known as the Wireless Association, in charge of testing.

This means unlike other phone makers, Samsung does not have to send batteries to a third-party facility to be tested. It also means the company might be forced to hold itself entirely responsible for not discovering the battery problems that plagued the Note 7 during its short life.
