From PC Mag: Yesterday, we got to watch the latest Nintendo Direct presentation and no one really knew what to expect. Nintendo's hardware focus right now is on the Switch$299.99 at Amazon and we've already had the 2DS XL launch earlier this year, so surely this Direct would be all about software, right? Actually no, there were three hardware announcements, albeit for existing platforms.
The biggest hardware announcement, and the one that will put even more pressure on Nintendo's production partners, was for a Super Mario Odyssey Switch bundle. From October 27, Nintendo will offer an Odyssey-themed bundle including a full game download copy of Super Mario Odyssey, a Switch including Mario Red Joy-Cons, and a Super Mario Odyssey carrying case for the Switch tablet. There's no word on pricing yet.
For the 2DS XL$149.99 at Newegg, there were actual two hardware announcements. Nintendo currently offers the 2DS XL in Black and Torquoise in the US, but from October 6 you'll also be able to get it in Orange and White. That's a color combo other territories have had the option of since launch.
The more popular new 2DS XL model, however, is sure to be the Poké Ball Edition. Nintendo is set to offer a version of the 2DS XL with a casing modeled on the look of the unmistakable Poké Ball from Pokemon. It won't arrive until November 3, though, and doesn't include any extras such as a game or carry case, which is a missed opportunity in my opinion. I won't be surprised if it costs more than the standard 2DS XL.
