From X-bit Labs: Intel Corp. plans to ship one million of its Core i7 and Core i5 microprocessors code-named Lynnfield by the end of the year, according to a media report. The number indicates that the world’s top chipmaker plans rather aggressive expansion of Lynnfield chips onto the market. The internal shipment target of Intel Core i7 and Core i5 processors in LGA1156 form-factor is one million units by the end of the year, claims DigiTimes web-site citing sources among motherboard makers. Shipping one million of rather expensive microprocessors in about four to five months is a rather aggressive plan. It took Intel six to seven months to ship one million of its first-generation Core i7 “Nehalem” processor in LGA1366 form-factor. Asustek Computer and Gigabyte Technology are each going to ship 400 thousand of LGA1156 motherboards by the end of the year, whereas ASRock, Elitegroup Computer Systems and MicroStar international plan to ship only 200 thousand LGA1156 mainboards in total, according to the same media report.
