From DailyTech: There are few things worse than plunking down your money on an expensive piece of equipment like a computer or home media server only to have new version come out shortly after you buy with more features. Many HP MediaSmart Server owners found themselves in this predicament back in September. When HP unveiled its new EX490 and EX495 MediaSmart servers, one of the big new features was new 3.0 software version that added features not previously available. The new software allowed collection of media from the network computers by type, file, or location among other new features. Other features included the ability to do a “bare metal recovery” of Mac systems using the MediaSmart server's built-in Time Machine capabilities. HP said in May that it would be bringing a software update to owners of older versions of its MediaSmart server system. The update was originally promised at the beginning of the fall, which has been here for a few weeks now. The software updates are optional and will not be made available as a download. The software update will only be offered on DVD. HP reports that it is currently working on a server recovery solution that will upgrade the servers to software version 3.0 and preserve the data in the shared folders of the device. HP reports that this is a much better solution than having the users manually offload and then restore their content. View: Article @ Source Site |
