From DailyTech: Twitter is one of the hottest web businesses online with everyone from regular Joes to celebrities logging on and microblogging. Last night, Twitter.com went down for several hours -- a notable event. While some were redirected to host PNAP's Perfect World advertisement page, others found themselves redirected to a rather alarming alternative -- a page from the "Iranian Cyber Army" claiming responsibility for the attack. It appears that ICA may be behind what appears to be a DNS hijacking. The group posted a message stating: Iranian Cyber Army THIS SITE HAS BEEN HACKED BY IRANIAN CYBER ARMY U.S.A. Think They Controlling And Managing Internet By Their Access, But THey Don't, We Control And Manage Internet By Our Power, So Do Not Try To Stimulation Iranian Peoples To…. NOW WHICH COUNTRY IN EMBARGO LIST? IRAN? USA? WE PUSH THEM IN EMBARGO LIST ;) Take Care. Of course, in reality it's unclear whether Iranians performed the attack at all or if it was just internet pranksters. So far details are scarce. Twitter released a short statement, commenting, "We are working to recover from an unplanned downtime and will update more as we learn the cause of this outage. Twitter's DNS records were temporarily compromised but have now been fixed. We are looking into the underlying cause and will update with more information soon." DNS hijacking does not mean that Twitter itself was compromised in any way. Though some feared that a worse attack was afoot and advocating that you change your passwords that resemble that of your Twitter account, it now appears that those concerns were overstated. Twitter is now back in action and appears to be back to normal. That's good news for microbloggers and bad news for ISA -- whoever they may be. View: Article @ Source Site |
