Apple Reportedly Hits “Manufacturing Bottleneck” with iPad

From X-bit Labs: Some technological decisions regarding Apple iPad are more than questionable, which points to a rush development and announcement. But there are other problems with the device. According to an analyst, the tablet personal computer from Apple has faced a manufacturing bottleneck, which may delay the launch or limit the amount of available devices.

“The upcoming iPad launch may be somewhat limited as a manufacturing bottleneck has impacted production of Apple's newest device. An unspecified production problem at the iPad's manufacturer, Hon Hai Precision, will likely limit the launch region to the U.S. and the number of units available to roughly 300K in the month of March, far lower than the company's initial estimate of one million units. The delay in production ramp will likely impact Apple's April unit estimate of 800 thousand as well. It is also possible that, given the limited number of units available in March, the launch will be delayed for a month,” analyst Peter Misek with Canaccord Adams said in a note to clients recently, reports AppleInsider.

Apple does not comment on possible re-scheduling of its introductions since this will indisputably result in loss of interest towards the iPad among potential customers in the light of emergence of new devices from other companies. However, the analyst claims that the impact is unlikely to be so dramatical.

"We believe that the only material impact from the iPad delay could come in the form of frustrated consumers and some modest loss of lustre for the company's product launch," said Mr. Misek.
