Nvidia May Launch Mobile Fermi-Generation Graphics Product in June

From X-bit Labs: Eurocom, a well-known maker of advanced personal computers, has included an option to install Nvidia Corp.’s GeForce GTX 480M graphics adapter into its X8100 Leopard notebook for gamers. According to the company, the next-generation graphics card for mobile computers from Nvidia will arrive in June, 2010, but not a lot is known about the product at the moment.

According to Eurocom, Nvidia GeForce GTX 480M will come in MXM 3.0b form-factor and will carry 2GB of GDDR5 memory, which may indicate that the chip has 256-bit memory controller. The product will be made using 40nm process technology and will have 100W thermal design power, never before seen heat dissipation for a mobile graphics chip, by contrast, the GeForce GTX 280M (based on G92 design) has TDP of 75W. In order to install the graphics solution into a built-to-order Eurocom X8100 Leopard end-users will have to pay additional $345 compared to default configuration with the GeForce GTX 280M.

It is unknown whether the mobile GeForce GTX 480M is based on the GF100 (NV60) design with up to 512 stream processors, or is powered by the GF104 chip, which uses the same Fermi architecture, but lacks certain capabilities.
