From InfoWorld: Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) finished the second quarter with its highest quarterly sales tally ever, a figure that also beat its guidance. Sales at the world's largest contract chip maker reached NT$105.0 billion (US$3.27 billion) in the second quarter, according to its monthly statements from April, May and June. The figure beat its old record of NT$93.86 billion from the fourth quarter of 2007. The figure also topped TSMC's guidance for second quarter sales of between NT$100 billion and NT$102 billion. Should its sales continue on the current trend, TSMC will fulfill a promise made by its chairman last year, that 2010 will be a record year for TSMC in terms of both sales and profit. The company declined to comment on the quarterly figure. TSMC is considered a bellwether for the tech industry due to the wide range of chips it manufactures, which end up in products including iPads, PCs and mobile phones. The company reported its best monthly sales ever in June, NT$36.33 billion, the third month in a row it has hit a fresh high. The company posted NT$34.82 billion in revenue in May and NT$33.81 billion in April. View: Article @ Source Site |
