Sprint to Launch HTC EVO Shift 4G

From DailyTech: Engadget has obtained some information from a reliable tipster that suggests Sprint will try to capitalize on the huge success of the HTC EVO 4G by introducing a new version in the near future.

The HTC EVO Shift 4G, as it is being trademarked, is set to be a smaller version of the current offering from Sprint. Rather, it will pack a four-row, full-QWERTY keyboard and a larger battery. According to the tipster, the device lacks a front-facing camera, but that could change when it sees the light of day (considering the recent popularity of video calling).

According to UnwiredView, the device, formerly known as the HTC Knight/Speedy, is set to be officially unveiled January 6. It will pack a 3.7" WVGA display and most likely ship with Android 2.3 "Gingerbread".

Little else is known about the rumored device. If the name sticks, the powerful EVO brand could evolve into the Sprint's version of Verizon's ubiquitous DROID line of Android-powered smartphones.
