Nvidia Quietly Launches Mainstream Titanium: GeForce GTX 550 Ti

From X-bit Labs: Nvidia Corp. has quietly updated its lineup of mainstream graphics processing units (GPUs) with GF116 chip and also introduced GeForce GTX 550 Titanium graphics card. The novelty is positioned as a mainstream solution and has a number of improvements compared to its predecessor, the GeForce GTS 450.

The GeForce GTX 550 Ti features fully-fledged GF116 chip with 192 stream cores, 32 texture units, 16 render back ends and 192-bit GDDR5 memory controller. The chip is clocked at whopping 900MHz and its stream processors operate at 1800MHz. The company recommends its partners to install 1.5GB of memory clocked at 4100MHz. The novelty fully supports DirectX 11, OpenGL 4.0, OpenCL 1.0 as well as Nvidia's proprietary technologies, such as 3DVision, PhysX, SLI and so on.

The predecessor of the novelty - the GeForce GTS 450 - did not feature 192-bit memory bus and also formally belonged to lower-class of solutions.

The new GeForce GF116 chip fully supports the advantages of the GF110 and GF114 designs (Fermi 1.5) and can boast with lower power leakage. Nonetheless, given higher clock-speed and wider memory bus compared to predecessor, the GeForce GTX 550 Ti consumes 116W of power, which is slightly higher compared to that of the GTS 450.

The GeForce GTX 550 Ti is available starting today from the world's leading add-in card partners, including ASL, Asustek Computer, Colorful, ECS, EVGA, Gainward, Galaxy, Gigabyte, Innovision 3D, Jetway, Leadtek, MSI, Palit, Point of View, PNY, Sparkle, Zotac and others. The manufacturer suggested recommended pricing of the novelty is $149.
