Lenovo Debuts New Cloud Clients, Secure Cloud Access Platform

From DailyTech: Lenovo has announced a new offering today that isn't a computer, but a new cloud-ready client for enterprise use.

The Cloud Ready Clients are optimized by Lenovo to interact with the cloud and provide the end users a great user experience. The clients were developed in cooperation with Intel and are designed to operate on all ThinkPad and ThinkCentre computers that run second-generation Intel Core or Core vPro processors. The clients also require the machine to be running the unique Intel developed APIs that exposes key hardware attributes on the client machine to the cloud applications.

Along with the client apps, Lenovo is also unveiling Lenovo Secure Cloud Access (SCA) that is powered by Stoneware's webNetwork. This delivery method allows improvements to be made in how the Cloud Ready client interacts with applications.

“For cloud computing to be truly effective, the cloud must recognize the client device and its capabilities, and the applications and resources have to be capable of exposing themselves to the cloud. That’s why Lenovo Cloud Ready Client and SCA are a match made in heaven,” said Rich Cheston, executive director and distinguished engineer, Lenovo. “SCA levels the playing field between cloud application and device by mirroring what users are already familiar with while creating an easy management experience for the IT staff.”

SCA allows businesses to deploy private hybrid cloud system inside the data center on physical or virtual servers. This allows for easier delivery of services to users. All the user needs to access the cloud services is the web-based desktop and an internet connection using a Java-enabled browser.
