Sales of Samsung Galaxy S II Reach Three Million Worldwide

From X-bit Labs: Samsung Electronics, a leading maker of consumer electronics, has announced that its latest flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S II (model: GT-I9100), has reached global channel sales of three million units. It took Samsung around two months to sell three million rather expensive devices.

Samsung Galaxy S II is an Android 2.3-based smartphone that was announced by Samsung on February 13, 2011 at the Mobile World Congress. The Galaxy S II is Samsung’s flagship smartphone that is only 8.49mm thin. It features dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 system-on-chip as well as ARM Mali-400 graphics engine. The product sports 4.27" Super AMOLED+ screen with 800*480 resolution. The device was released worldwide starting from May 2011, by more than 140 vendors in 120 countries.

The smartphone also includes exclusive access to Samsung’s four new content and entertainment hubs, seamlessly integrated to provide instant access to music, games, e-reading and social networking services.

“Announced at Mobile World Congress 2011, the Galaxy S II represents our most advanced smartphone to date and demonstrates Samsung's commitment to deliver premium, market-defining devices. This milestone reflects the continued strong support from our carrier partners around the world who have chosen the Galaxy S II as their flagship Android device," said JK Shin, president and head of Samsung's mobile communications business.

It is noteworthy that it took Samsung Electronics only about two months to sell three million flagship smartphones. The speed of sales can be compared to the success of Apple iPhone 4 and other ultra-popular models.
