From Forbes: This past month or so has been somewhat tumultuous for Intel. A number of top executives, partially responsible for Intel’s successful early discrete GPU marketing efforts left the company and the launch of its 10th Gen Core X series high-end desktop processors was quelled by the near simultaneous launch of AMD’s latest Threadripper processors, which feature many more cores and soundly outpaced the Intel processors in multi-threaded workloads. The Threadrippers also offer better power and thermal characteristics, and support for higher-bandwidth PCI Express 4.0 as well. Intel continues its march forward in the discrete GPU space, however, and has apparently snatched another high-level executive away from AMD, Masooma Bhaiwala.
Masooma Bhaiwala was a near 16-year veteran of AMD. She was Senior Director of Design Engineering before becoming Corporate Vice President of Semi-Custom SoCs. During her tenure at AMD, Bhaiwala oversaw silicon design efforts and lead the team that designed and managed virtually every aspect of the company’s semi-custom SoC business. Bhaiwala’s responsibilities included planning, hiring and engaging with customers (like Microsoft and Sony, for example) before final silicon was ready.
According to a story on CRN – and her LinkedIn Profile – Bhaiwala is now Vice President of the Graphics SoC business at Intel. She joins former co-coworker Raja Koduri, who left AMD for Intel in 2017 and is currently Senior Vice President, Chief Architect, and General Manager of Intel Architecture, Graphics, and Software.
