Google Translate Adds Support for 110 Languages, Its Largest Expansion Ever

From PC Mag: Google is adding 110 new languages to Google Translate, bringing its total number of supported languages to 243.

The key to this achievement? AI, of course. The company's PaLM 2 AI model "was a key piece to the puzzle, helping Translate more efficiently learn languages that are closely related to each other, including languages close to Hindi, like Awadhi and Marwadi, and French creoles like Seychellois Creole and Mauritian Creole," Isaac Caswell, a senior software engineer for Google Translate, wrote in a blog post.

New languages include Cantonese, one of the most requested languages, and Manx, Nko, Punjabi (Shahmukhi), Tamazight (Amazigh), and Tok Pisin. These languages represent more than 614 million people or around 8% of the world's population, Google says.

You can access Google’s updated translation service at translate.google.com or via the Google Translate app for Android and iOS.
