From CNET: Xbox Live is back online. After an outage knocked out the gaming service for several hours on Tuesday, Microsoft's gaming platform is back in service. In a tweet posted on X Tuesday evening, the company confirmed its issues have been resolved.
When the service was down, gamers were unable to log into their profiles which prevented them from being able to play games on their consoles. Microsoft's Xbox Status support page, which characterized the incident as "major outage," said the disruption was first reported around 2:07 p.m. ET. "You may not be able to sign-in to your Xbox profile, may be disconnected while signed in, or have other related problems. Features that require sign-in like most games, apps and social activity won't be available," a message accompanying the issue read.
Since users couldn't log in, even games downloaded locally to their Xboxes wouldn't open.
There is still no word on what caused the issue. When contacted for comment, an Xbox spokesperson directed CNET to the Xbox Support account on X, which has been tweeting out similar updates.
