From ExtremeTech: Microsoft has warned its users that they could face cyber attacks if they do not upgrade their Windows 10 PCs to Windows 11. The company will officially end support for Windows 10 on Oct. 14, ten years after its debut. Once support ends, hundreds of millions of Windows 10 users will no longer receive protection against online threats, leaving their devices more exposed to malware and viruses.
Data from StatCounter Global Stats shows that over 40% of Windows users are still on Windows 10, while consumer groups in the UK say about 5 million people in the region still use the aging OS. Meanwhile, a recent Which? survey cited by The Independent indicates that one in four users plan to keep using Windows 10 even after support ends.
A Microsoft Support post notes that while "computers running Windows 10 will still function" after Oct. 14, Microsoft will not continue to provide "technical support of any issue, software updates, [or] security updates or fixes." Those who can upgrade their OS are therefore strongly urged to do so if they'd like to keep their cybersecurity risk low and their apps working properly.
