I recorded a few samples with the unidirectional mode on and then also the omni-directional mode. I compared these two modes with one another and then with a separate computer microphone and my headset's included microphone, so I could better assess the sound quality.
Both microphones are a huge upgrade from a standard computer microphone. The recorded sound is clearer and crisper. The computer microphone is hollow and the sound is distant, while the ModMic is closer with a fuller sound. There is a difference, however, between the omni-directional and unidirectional modes. For the unidirectional microphone, the sound is much more immediate, almost like someone is talking straight into your ear. It is a bit deeper than the omni-directional microphone. On the other hand, the omni-directional microphone sounds a bit more natural, like having a normal conversation in a room. The sound both microphones reproduced was good. Overall, the Antlion Audio ModMic USB is a big upgrade to a normal computer microphone and even some headset microphones. For anyone looking to attach a microphone to their favorite headset, the Antlion Audio ModMic USB is an excellent option.
