New to our battery of SSD benchmarks is the PCMark 8 Storage Consistency Test. Nowadays, many drives are well optimized for high benchmark scores when they are empty, but what separates the professional players from the amateurs is how it stands up to a truly punishing workload. PCMark 8's Storage Consistency Test is designed exactly for this purpose. Going through five phases -- precondition, degradation, steady state, recovery, and clean up -- to extend beyond real world application simulations, this benchmark takes just over two days to complete, but the results are revealing of a SSD's true capabilities. Overall, the Crucial MX300 750GB's results were not bad for its class, but it definitely could be better. In the first pass, it came up behind the Trion 150 usually by about 10MB/s to 15MB/s in the degradation phases, while closing the gap with one win in the steady phases. In the second and third pass, the Crucial MX300 750GB posted huge leads in the degradation phases, and consistently trading punches in the steady phases. However, in all three passes, the MX300 had a consistently gap ranging from 10MB/s to 30MB/s in the five recovery phases; taking home only one win and one tie in fifteen data points.
